After Action Reviews
The After-Action Review (AAR) workshop is designed to support Local EMOs in working together to conduct post-event debriefings. By the end of the workshop, everyone should have a shared understanding of what happened, what went well, what didn’t, and a strategy for how to improve the current structure for the next event. Ideally, AARs should be conducted within 3 months of the emergency event ending to be sure that the main stakeholders are still available, and their memory of the event is still fresh. This workshop requires active participation to encourage the sharing of experiences among participants and across the different groups and can run for multiple days depending on the complexity of the event. The Emergency Coordinator for the community will be the facilitator and will lead the group discussion and activities throughout the seminar. The facilitator, or the notetaker, will need to record/take pictures of any key information gathered through both the group discussions and projects for completion of the final report. The final report is a space to summarize the workshop, record the key findings, and lay out the priorities that have been set for improving the processes for any future events.
