NWT communities are in need of citizens who want to contribute and advance their municipal government by providing a clear vision, planned out direction, and effective policies and programs all supported by required financial and human resources and public infrastructure.

This Municipal Elections section of the MACA website has been developed to give the public and those who are thinking of running for municipal election an understanding of the election process and the legislative requirements.

Along with the website information we also suggest you familiarize yourself with the ‘Local Authorities Elections Act.’ It is this Act that provides the legislation guiding municipal elections.
