The NWT Community Government Accountability Framework (AF) defines a way to document and report on the provision of municipal governance, programs and services. The AF also provides NWT community governments, which include 24 Municipalities and 9 Designated Authorities, with an important tool to monitor and measure performance of their organizations.
The AF has been designed to reflect the core areas of municipal responsibility that promotes best practices, areas that are required through legislation or terms and conditions of various agreements.
These core responsibilities are:
- Good governance;
- Comprehensive planning;
- Sound financial management and administration; and
- Safe, healthy and vibrant communities.
For each of the core areas of responsibility the AF includes several key performance indicators that are used to assess municipalities and designated authority’s performance.
