This guide outlines the importance of community civic addressing, identifies guidelines and best practices, and provides a series of suggested steps that a community government may wish to follow to initiate the review and implementation of a community civic addressing system.

The guide explains how the municipal public engagement process, that must be undertaken by a community government in the preparation or amendment of its community plan, is distinct from Aboriginal consultation that the Government of the Northwest Territories is legally required to undertake with Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations with asserted or established Aboriginal and/or Treaty rights that may be adversely impacted.
