New Deal Capital Planning Task Team and Administrator’s Working Group - Collaboration Award

The Premier’s Collaboration Award recognizes the outstanding achievement of GNWT employees who work in partnership with other government and non-government employees to improve services for NWT residents. This year, the Premier acknowledged the New Deal Planning Task Team Administrator’s Group, which included:

Thomas Beard, MACA, Yellowknife
Perry Heath, MACA, Yellowknife
Amir Agha, MACA, Yellowknife
Gil Lafferty, MACA, Fort Smith
Wayne R. Lennie, MACA, Norman Wells
Dennis Buboire, MACA, Fort Simpson
Lorie Fyfe, MACA, Inuvik
Herman Kaglik, MACA, Inuvik
Yvette Gonzalez, NWTAC
John McKee, Hamlet of Fort Liard
Max Hall, City of Yellowknife
Roy Scott, Town of Fort Smith

The New Deal Capital Planning Task Team and Administrator’s Working Group showed considerable collaboration to achieve outstanding transformations for communities. Over a three-year period, the New Deal Administrators task team, which included MACA staff and senior administrators from the NWT Association of Communities and three community governments, led the development and implementation of a capital funding formula for NWT community governments.

The task team’s work resulted in a new approach to providing infrastructure for 33 NWT communities. For the first time, all communities have the ability to make decisions about their own infrastructure priorities. This was a huge policy shift for the GNWT about how infrastructure is provided to communities.

The Capital Planning Task Team then worked with communities to develop capital investment plans, supporting the implementation of the New Deal. The considerable collaboration shown by the various Parties involved resulted in a more effective way of doing business.
