Increase to Volunteer Organization Development Fund

YELLOWKNIFE (September 28, 2010) — The Government of the Northwest Territories’ Volunteer Organization Development Fund has been increased from $20,000 to $70,000 annually.

Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Robert C. McLeod, says the increased funding will help expand the skills and knowledge of the NWT’s volunteer base. “It reflects our recognition of the important role that volunteer organizations and their memberships play in building sustainable, vibrant, safe communities,” he says.

The Volunteer Organization Development Fund is available to assist volunteer organizations in the Northwest Territories with training, development and other associated investments in the capacity of the NWT’s volunteers.

Supporting the voluntary sector is an important part of the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Building our Future initiative which is working to support the goal of healthy educated people and sustainable, vibrant, safe communities as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s Vision of Northerners Working Together.
