Brendan Green Makes Canadian Olympic Team
YELLOWKNIFE (January 28, 2010) – The Government of the Northwest Territories wishes to congratulate biathlete Brendan Green of Hay River for being selected today to represent Canada at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
“We are very proud to have one of our NWT athletes represent Canada,” said Premier Floyd Roland. “We look forward to seeing Brendan showcase his remarkable talent and compete amongst the world’s best.”
Brendan currently trains with the Senior Development Training Team in Canmore, Alberta, and is an eight-time Canadian medalist as well as a bronze and silver medalist in the relay at the 2007 and 2005 World Junior and Youth Championships.
“Brendan’s dedication and commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle has led to this monumental achievement,” said the Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister Responsible for Sport. “His success is an example to all aspiring NWT athletes, and I wish him the best of luck.”
“I want to congratulate Brendan on his incredible achievement,” said Jane Groenewegen, MLA Hay River South. “His amazing talent and dedication, combined with the support of his family, coaches and community gives us all great pride as he competes at the Olympics.”
Brendan has received the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs and Sport North’s High Performance Athlete Grant (HPAG) for the past four years. The HPAG provides funding for NWT high performance athletes to assist with costs associated with training and competing in their chosen sport.
