Outstanding Volunteer Awards Announced
YELLOWKNIFE (April 21, 2008) — The Honourable Michael McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) today announced the 2008 Outstanding Volunteer Award recipients. The outstanding volunteers will be honoured at a ceremony in Norman Wells during National Volunteer Week, April 27 to May 3, 2008.
“MACA recognizes and appreciates the important work that volunteers do across the Northwest Territories,” said Minister McLeod. “These annual awards are a way of acknowledging the individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to their communities.”
Recipients of the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards for 2008 are:
- Outstanding Elder Award – Mabel Collinson, Yellowknife
- Outstanding Youth Award – Taylor Reid, Hay River
- Outstanding Individual Award – George Tsetso, Nahanni Butte
- Outstanding Group Award – Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Inuvik
The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs, in partnership with Volunteer NWT, presents the Outstanding Volunteer Awards annually to individuals and groups who have helped improve the quality of life in the NWT through their work as volunteers. Award recipients are chosen through an open nomination process.
“The theme for National Volunteer Week 2008, “Volunteers, from Compassion to Action”, represents the inspiration that drives volunteers as they donate their time, energy and skills to better their communities”, said Bill Graham, Chair, Volunteer NWT. “National Volunteer Week is a great opportunity for all Northwest Territories residents to take action and celebrate the contributions of community volunteers”.
