Call for 2010 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards Nominations
YELLOWKNIFE (January 4, 2010) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) pays tribute to volunteers annually by presenting the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards to individuals and organizations who have improved the quality of life for NWT residents through significant voluntary commitment.
Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) Robert C. McLeod today opened the call for nominations for the 2010 Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards.
“The NWT is home to thousands of volunteers who keep our communities strong and vibrant places to live,” Minister McLeod said. “I look forward to formally recognizing exceptional groups and individuals who go above and beyond in their efforts to serve their communities by volunteering.”
Awards are presented in the following categories:
- Youth Volunteer Award
- Elder Volunteer Award
- Outstanding Group
- Outstanding Volunteer
The deadline for nominations is March 26, 2010.
Since 1991, these awards have been presented to individuals and groups nominated by the public for their volunteer work. Not only do these awards draw attention to the award recipients, they draw attention to the effort made by all NWT volunteers and serve to recognize the significant contribution NWT volunteers make to their communities and to the NWT as a whole.
Recognizing outstanding NWT volunteers is an important part of the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Building our Future initiative, which aims in part to improve support to the voluntary sector. Strengthening the voluntary sector will work to support our goals of healthy educated people and sustainable, vibrant, safe communities as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s Vision of Northerners Working Together.
