NWT Youth Centers Receive Funding

Yellowknife (August 12, 2009) - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is investing $500,000 to assist with operating costs of youth centers and community based facilities offering positive youth programs in 29 NWT communities.

Today’s announcement of the 2009 Recipients of the Youth Centres Initiative by Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) Robert C. McLeod coincides with International Youth Day.

"Investing in our children and youth is a key part of the GNWT’s Building our Future Initiative,” says Minister McLeod. “It supports youth programs in communities across the Northwest Territories by providing financial assistance to ensure youth centres can continue to focus on offering positive programming for youth.”

Funding for the Youth Centres Initiative was increased by $250,000 in 2009.
