Recipients of High Performance Athlete Grants Announced
YELLOWKNIFE (January 13, 2010) – Recipients of the 2009-2010 High Performance Athlete Grant were announced today by the Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), and Richard Daitch, President of the Sport North Federation.
The program provides funding for high performance athletes from the Northwest Territories to assist with costs associated with training and competing in their chosen sport. The funding level from each recipient is based on athletic achievement and recognition at the national or international level. The Sport North Federation and MACA jointly approve all recipients.
“These recipients are role models for healthy, active living for all residents in the Northwest Territories,” said Minister McLeod. “Our Government is proud to support these high performance athletes. I wish them the best of luck this season!”
“The Sport North Federation has been an ongoing supporter of the High Performance Athlete Grant program,” said Mr. Daitch. “This program aids committed NWT individuals, in a variety of sports, to pursue their athletic dreams. Training at a high level in sport is a costly pursuit involving expenses for coaches, travel and equipment. This program helps to enable these young men and woman to compete both nationally and internationally and serve as role models for younger aspiring athletes. Sport North wishes to congratulate the grant recipients for their achievements."
