Integrated Community Sustainability Planning
In 2005, Canada and the Northwest Territories signed the Canada-NWT Agreement on the Transfer of Federal Gas Tax Revenues. The focus of this funding agreement is to promote cleaner air, cleaner water and reduced greenhouse gas emissions through the development of environmentally sustainable municipal infrastructure. As part of the agreement, Canada requires the development of Integrated Community Sustainability Plans which look at long term sustainability and objectives for community governments. The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs, the NWT Association of Communities, and the Arctic Energy Alliance have developed the following tools to help communities complete the required plans by March 2010:
