Basic Emergency Management (Home Study)
The Basic Emergency Management Course, is offered by the Emergency Measures Organizations (EMO). The course is on CD-ROM which is available through the EMO. The course is structured to provide the participants with a broad base from which to carry out emergency planning and operations. This course is intended for individuals with a role in community emergency response. This is an entry level course and is the prerequisite for all other courses conducted at the Canadian Emergency Management College or through EMO.
Emergency Operations Centre Management - Ottawa
Course Objectives
To enable the participant to work as a member of the Emergency Operations Centre team, which manages the emergency response for the overall municipality.
Course Description
The intent of the training course is to prepare emergency management practitioners to carry out their role as members of an Emergency Operations Centre team. The EOC Management Course trains participants to effectively manage and coordinate the overall operations within their community, while also providing the necessary support to the site management team during a multi-service response to an emergency. Course participants will apply the course concepts in simulated emergency situations.
Target Population
The course is intended for senior level emergency management practitioners who will have a decision-making role in the EOC. Applicants must demonstrate their emergency role as it relates to the course objective.
Prerequisites
Candidates must have completed the Basic Emergency Management course and must have a decision-making role in an Emergency Operations Centre that requires the training provided by this course.

NEW SAR COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Ground Search and Rescue –Basic Responder
This training will qualify the candidate to be employed under normal supervision as a team member of a search team by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform as a Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Responder at the BASIC level.
The Senior Instructor of the Local Ground Search and Rescue Team delivers this course. The GSAR Team Senior Instructor or the Community Coordinator will schedule this course as and when required. As local conditions, resources and personnel will differ from one GSAR Team to GSAR Team, or Community-to- Community, the Senior Instructor must develop their own training timetable ensuring that all training is covered.
Course Training Agency
The Training Agency for the Ground Search and Rescue Basic Responder Course shall be either the SAR Team or the Community.
Course Pre–Requisites
No prerequisites exist to take the Ground Search and Rescue Basic Responder Course.
Ground Search and Rescue –Team Leader
This training will qualify the candidate to be employed under normal supervision as a team member of a search team by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform as a Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Responder at the TEAM LEADER level.
The Senior Instructor of the Local Ground Search and Rescue Team delivers this course. The GSAR Team Senior Instructor or the Community Coordinator will schedule this course as and when required. As local conditions, resources and personnel will differ from one GSAR Team to GSAR Team, or Community-to-Community, the Senior Instructor must develop their own training timetable ensuring that all training is covered.

The Training Agency for the Ground Search and Rescue Team Leader Course shall be either the GSAR Team or the Community.
Course Pre–Requisites
Completion of the Ground Search and Rescue Team Basic Responder Course is required in order to progress to the Ground Search and Rescue Team Leader Course.
Ground Search and Rescue –Search Manager
This training will qualify the candidate to be employed as a Search Manager managing a search by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform as a Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Responder at the SEARCH MANAGER level.
A large proportion of the GSAR Search Manager performance objectives are knowledge based. A hands–on learning approach is essential to the teaching of these subjects. The lesser portion of the GSAR Search Manager is skill related. It cannot be emphasized enough that the GSAR Search Managers are responsible for the management of the GSAR Team or Community Response Group and that the consequences of error are high.
Due to the complex protocols taught at this level, no local training is authorized. The School of Community Government will schedule courses, which will be the only means of attaining this qualification.
Course Training Agency
The School of Community Government shall run all Ground Search and Rescue Search Manager Courses and shall be the only authorized Training Agency for this training.

Completion of the Ground Search and Rescue Team Leader Course is required in order to progress to the Ground Search and Rescue Search Manager Course.
