Community Emergency Management

The Civil Emergency Measures Act directs all communities to plan for, and respond to, any natural disasters or civil emergencies that may occur within their jurisdiction. MACA has a responsibility to provide assistance and guidance to communities in completing and maintaining the currency of those plans.

  • MACA provides communities planning material and assistance for creating Emergency Response Plans.
  • MACA assists a community to respond to a disaster or emergency by providing monitoring, advice, guidance, and coordination of requests for support.
  • Financial assistance under the federal Joint Emergency Preparedness Program is available to cost-share new equipment or specialized training.
  • New ground search and rescue training standards have been established to ensure that responders are adequately trained for search and rescue activities.
