Halloween Questions and Answers
Q. What is the most important feature of a Halloween costume?
A. It should be flameproof. Other important features are: Bright colours are more easily seen in the dark. Strips of reflective tape can also be added. Fit is another factor as costumes should allow freedom of movement and should be short enough so that kids don't trip over them.
Q. What kind of mask is best?
A. One that will not obstruct vision or interfere with breathing.
Q. What makes face painting such a good idea?
A. Face painting has none of the disadvantages masks do. It is cooler and can be a creative project to design. Be sure to put a little cold cream on first so that the paint will come off easily at the end of the night.
Q. Where should kids be allowed to trick-or-treat?
A. Only to houses of people they know. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.
Q. What kind of treats should children be allowed to eat as they make their rounds?
A. None! All the loot should be carefully inspected by parents first. To help kids resist the temptation, be sure to give them a good supper before starting out.
Q. What special advice would you give to older kids going out alone?
A. All of the above for starters. In addition, remind them not to rush, especially across streets; not to run through backyards (they may encounter clothes lines or fences, or run into objects standing in yards) and not to do any damage.
Q. What ever happened to the good old jack-o-lantern?
A. The carved pumpkin is still a popular part of Halloween decorating. However, the candle inside should be replaced by a small flashlight.
Don't be spooked by Halloween. It can really be fun. And if you take advantage of these bits of advice, kids can make the rounds safely.
