Training

Fire fighter training is provided at the community level upon community request. All Communities have access to a wide range of training opportunities. NWT fire service instructors teach certified training to the national standard in partnership with Fire Etc., an Alberta based fire training school.

Fire Training

Description

NWT Defensive Fire Fighter Course

This course equips firefighters with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively and safely respond to an alarm, arrive at the scene, contain the fire and reduce the potential of increased danger to property or lives.

Courses offered upon community request.

NWT Offensive I, II and III Fire Fighter Course

These courses introduce the firefighter to interior firefighting tactics, structural search and rescue techniques.

Courses offered upon community request.

Wildland/Urban Interface Fire-fighter Training

This course provides basic knowledge and skills to combat a wildfire within community boundaries.

Firefighter Training Modules (Advanced level)

Advanced training levels for more organized Fire Departments.

Fire Officer Training Modules

These courses build on the knowledge of firefighting strategy and tactics including size up and procedures for control of an emergency procedure from an officer/command perspective.

E1 (Instructor Practical Skills Course)

This course focuses on the knowledge and ability to conduct instruction from prepared materials, predominately skills oriented.

E2 (Instructor Theoretical Skills Course)

The focus of this course is on the knowledge and ability to conduct instruction from self-prepared material, predominately lecture orientated.

E3 (Instructor/Evaluator Course)

The main focus of this course is on the evaluation process, which includes written, and practical examinations, self-evaluations and analysis and interpretation of exam results and statistics.

Council Orientation to Fire Protection

Upon community request. One-hour presentation offered on councils’ roles and responsibilities towards fire protection.
