FIRE ALARM VERIFICATION

(FM-002-86)

The owner or his agent, upon completion of the installation, upgrading and/or major renovation of the fire alarm system, shall arrange for complete testing of the system in accordance with the requirements of Standard for Verification of Fire Alarm Systems, CAN/ULC- S537-04.

The owner or his agent, together with the installer and a representative of the manufacturer of the Fire Alarm*, shall be present during the testing of the Fire Alarm System.

*A representative of the manufacturer of the Fire Alarm System shall be an employee of the manufacturer or a person authorized in writing by the manufacturer to act as their representative. Such authorization shall be on original company letterhead and signed by an officer of the company.

The owner or his agent shall demonstrate that the operator of the system has been trained in the use of the system and that provisions have been made for continuing training.

A copy of the verification report shall be submitted to the Office of the Fire Marshal within 30 days of verification. A copy of the verification report shall be kept at the main alarm panel location if it is located outside a public area. If the report cannot be kept at the main panel location it shall be located with the building log books.
