Community Planning
The Community Planning section provides advice and assistance to community governments related to the physical development of their communities. This includes reviewing and approving subdivision plans, providing advice on land use and community planning, and reviewing and providing advice on zoning By-laws and development standards.
The Community Planning section is also responsible for the management of development areas in the Northwest Territories that the Commissioner may designate from time to time. Development areas are areas that are generally regulated for the protection of the public and the environment.
In carrying out its duties, the Community Planning section administers the Planning Act and the Area Development Act and Regulations. The Community Planning section also relies on established principles, practices, and protocols related to community planning.

Planning Act Review
The Department of MACA recently conducted a stakeholder review of the Planning Act. The Department received comments from a number of individuals, community governments and groups and has received approval to post the following comments for others to review.
