Emergency Management Responsibilities
Emergency arrangements established under the NWT Emergency Plan provide for the response to and recovery from an emergency and form the territorial element of a national emergency response system.
- The NWT Emergency Plan is approved by the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs to provide for a prompt and coordinated response by the GNWT and its public & private sectors partners. The NWT Emergency Plan applies to emergencies or threat situations beyond the normal operational capabilities of any one organization.
- The response to an emergency escalates through four levels of control, although the organizational structure of government is retained and jurisdictional authority continues as much as is possible.
